250kW Vestwoods PowerHelp Pro Series Energy Storage System

The Vestwoods PowerHelp Pro 250kW is a turnkey commercial/industrial energy storage solution, delivering 250 kW continuous (up to ~275 kW peak) of bi-directional power with seamless grid integration. Its all-in-one cabinet houses a high-efficiency 250 kW PCS (power conversion system) with a built-in Static Transfer Switch (STS) and a 275 kVA isolation transformer, ensuring uninterrupted switching between utility, generator, and battery sources. The PCS can parallel up to 4 units for scalability in larger applications.
Integrated energy management and control systems (EMS with 3D HMI), intelligent monitoring (IMS), and a Battery Management System (BMS) coordinate charge/discharge schedule, optimize efficiency, and safeguard the system. Active safety features include automatic fire suppression (aerosol or halocarbon FSS) and multi-zone temperature control (TCS) for the air-cooled modules. The ESS uses modular high-voltage Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery cabinets (each ~215 kWh) that can be paralleled to reach the desired capacity. LiFePO₄ chemistry is intrinsically non-flammable and highly stable – cells “won’t explode or catch fire” even under abuse – and the BMS actively balances cells for reliability. All components are housed in rugged enclosures (IP55 for the PCS, IP54 for batteries) rated for –30 °C to +60 °C operation and up to 3000m altitude.

  • Power Conversion & STS: 250 kW continuous (500 kW peak) bidirectional output; 3-phase 220/380 V (230/400 V) with built-in static transfer switching. Fast sub-10ms transfer ensures seamless backup or islanding operation. The integrated 275 kVA transformer provides galvanic isolation and compatibility with TN/IT/TT grid systems.
  • Battery Modules: Scalable stack of 215 kWh LiFePO₄ cabinets (768 V nominal) – a standard 2-cabinet setup yields ~430 kWh (24×17.92 kWh cells). Additional cabinets can be added to expand storage. LiFePO₄ batteries offer very long life (~6000 cycles at 80% depth-of-discharge) with minimal capacity fade, enabling a design life of 10+ years.
  • Safety & Thermal Control: Comprehensive protection with automatic fire suppression (aerosol or perfluoro options) and precision cooling. Onboard BMS/IMS continuously monitors cell voltage, current, and temperature, providing early fault detection. The enclosures meet IP55 (electronics) / IP54 (batteries) for dust/water resistance. The system also includes anti-islanding, surge protection, and redundant grounding to ensure high reliability.
  • Smart EMS & Communications: Integrated Energy Management System (with intuitive 3D touchscreen HMI) enables configurable modes (peak shaving, time-of-use arbitrage, UPS, etc.) and monitors multi-unit parallel operation. Supports standard protocols (Modbus/RS485, CAN, Ethernet) for SCADA or building management integration. Bi-directional energy flow allows self-consumption of solar/wind generation, with up to 6 MPPT inputs (as per typical C&I inverter array) and grid-forming/grid-following flexibility.
  • Additional Information: The system is designed to work with 110kW Deye string inverters, which are not included in the package and must be purchased separately. All battery cables are not included in the battery containers and must be sourced independently.

Key Performance Metrics:
High conversion efficiency (>97% per stage) and MPPT inverter efficiency (~98.8%) deliver excellent round-trip performance. Operating temperature range is –30 to +60 °C, with derating above 3000 m. The system’s ingress protection (IP55/54) and seismic-rating (if specified) allow outdoor or indoor installation. With LiFePO₄ chemistry and a robust BMS, cycle life exceeds 6000 cycles @80% DoD, supporting a 10-year or longer warranty. Grid compatibility includes full compliance with international standards (IEC 61727/62116, EN 50549, VDE, CEI, G99, UNE, etc.), unity power factor operation, and low THDi (<3%).

Applications:
This 250kW system is ideal for medium-sized commercial and industrial sites needing reliable backup, peak demand management, or renewable integration. Typical deployments include farms, factories, data centres, hospitals, supermarkets, and residential developments. It serves as a UPS microgrid node, a dispatchable storage for solar/wind smoothing, or a partner to gensets (zero-transfer-time grid-to-storage switching). In all cases, the PowerHelp Pro 250kW emphasizes safety (LFP chemistry, fire protection), modular scalability (easy expansion by adding cabinets), and intelligent control to maximize efficiency and return on investment (for example, supporting time-of-use tariff optimization).
